Who We Treat

HPC is not right for everyone. Your safety comes first, which is why every visit begins with a free consultation. We only treat if we think we can help.

When we do not treat

  • Over open wounds, fresh incisions, draining areas, or infection
  • When a blood clot (DVT) is suspected
  • Severe circulation problems
  • A cold-related blood disorder, such as cryoglobulinemia or cold agglutinin disease
  • Severe sensitivity to cold
  • Areas where you cannot reliably feel or tell us about cold or discomfort
  • A suspected fracture or dislocation that has not been checked
  • If you are not comfortable with the possibility of changes in skin color

Talk with us first

We use extra caution, and want to review your history with you before any treatment, if you have:

  • Diabetes, especially with reduced sensation or slow healing
  • Neuropathy, nerve damage, or other conditions that affect sensation
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Raynaud's phenomenon or other circulation or vascular conditions
  • Reduced blood supply to the head of the thigh bone (hip)
  • Taking blood thinners, bruising easily, fragile skin, or significant swelling
  • Recent surgery (see below)

If you have any of these, please also check with your physician. We always follow your physician's guidance.

After surgery

We need your surgeon's clearance and at least 10 days since the procedure. We never treat over an incision.

When to Seek Medical Attention

For severe pain, an injury or suspected fracture, worsening numbness or weakness, fever with a painful joint, chest pain, or loss of bladder or bowel control, get medical care first. HPC is not a substitute for it.

Not sure whether this applies to you? That is what the consultation is for. It is free, and we will tell you honestly whether we think we can help. Results vary by person.
